As good and honest people, we often assume that others are like us, projecting our positive qualities onto them, even without any evidence that they possess those qualities. This is called positive self-projection.
What we actually project are our own positive qualities into other people even if we don’t have evidence that those people possess those qualities.
So I always say to my therapy clients slow down, let’s wait and see, and look for evidence in their behavior without any paranoid tendency, let’s watch for the proof in their behavior, and let’s slowly develop your relationship with them without hoping, praying, or wishing they were different people, we get more evidence how much they are emotionally trustworthy people and certainly not rely on just their words.
